2012 CT Conference on Tourism

Conference Background

• The Connecticut Office of Tourism presented an annual conference prior to 2007.

• In 2009, the private sector reconvened an industry Conference at MGM Grand at Foxwoods.

• The tourism industry held its 2010 Conference to rally support for State funding of tourism promotion.

• The 2011 Tourism Conference was postponed while the Governor solicited legislative support to significantly fund economic development and tourism marketing.

• The Connecticut Conference on Tourism has been successfully managed by Quinn & Hary Marketing for the past three years.

History of State Tourism Funding

• Connecticut's tourism marketing budget was only $1.00 as of 2010.

• At last year's Conference, Keynote Speaker Bill Sigel cited research on the decline of Colorado tourism when its state did not fund the promotion of tourism.

• Candidate Malloy participates in the gubenatorial debate at the 2010 Tourism Conference and first advocates for a multi million dollar tourism marketing budget for Connecticut.

• Governor Malloy delivers on his campaign pledge to revitalize Connecticut tourism and wins legislative approval for a 2012 budget of $15 million!
